early times report
Vijaypur, Sept. 1: Government should first implement 73rd and 74th amendments of the Panchayati Raj Act in the State constitution to empower the Panchayats stated , former Minister and senior Congress leader from Vijaypur, Manjeet Singh
"The government's decision to soon hold local body elections is a welcome step. To empower the panchayats, the government should implement the amendments in the Panahayati Raj Act as the rest of the states of the country have done," Singh said, while addressing a monthly Congress workers meeting at Vijaypur in party office.
After listening to various problems being faced by the workers at the grass root level, Manjeet Singh said that the Panchayat without the amendments in Jammu and Kashmir are tooth less and they should be given their rights for effect policy implementation at the ground level for which the people have elected their representatives of Panchayats.
"There is a need to strengthen the Panchayat for the welfare of the poor and especially the downtrodden people so that they can get their share. The central government has pumped huge money through various schemes in Jammu and Kashmir but its implementations at most of the places lack," he added.
Singh, while speaking in the party office at Vijaypur appealed the party workers to appraise people about the developmental works taken up by the UPA government and State government under the leadership of AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
