Soz wants football promotion in Kashmir only! | | | earlly times report JAMMU, Sept 1: Forgetting Winter Capital, Pradesh Congress chief and Member Parliament, Prof Saifuddin Soz has asked the Union Minister for Sports, Ajay Makan for promotion of football in Kashmir only. In a meeting held with the Minister at New Delhi, Prof Soz highlighted the importance of strengthening the game of football in the Summer Capital. "I told the Minister that while promotion of cricket, hockey and other games played in J&K State has to receive a fillip in the days to come, the promotion of football in Kashmir must be a priority for Government of India," said Prof Soz in a statement issued here today. Providing the Minister with details of how football got fillip in the state, Prof Soz quoted the exceptional contributions of Tyndale Biscoe in the beginning of the 20th century. Prof Soz also briefed the Minister about a big crowd that turned up to witness the recently held friendly game between J&K XI and Mohammadan Sports of Kolkatta at Bakshi Stadium after a long time. "Among other things, I told the Minister that he should repair and reconstruct three football grounds in Srinagar as also develop fields in all other districts of the State," the handout mentioned. The PCC chief asked the Minister to pay a visit to the state and meet prominent footballers, particularly international players, Mehraj u din Wadoo and Ashfaq Ahmad, for promotion of the game, particularly in Kashmir. Surprisingly, Prof Soz forgot the name of international footballer from Jammu, Arun Malhotra, who was first recipient of State Sports Award in the game. Being state Congress head, former Union Minister must have mentioned Jammu also in his meeting with Mr Makan. |
