| Selection criterion for teachers | | | Jammu, February 07 Minister of State for Education S. Manjit Singh in reply to a question by Mr. Yogesh Sawhney informed Legislative Assembly today that Services Selection Board has notified the minimum eligibility qualification for the post of teacher as 10+2 with not less than 50% marks. The bar of 50% shall not, however, apply to the candidates possessing graduation and above qualification. The minimum qualification is provided under the Recruitment Rules and consequently any person possessing the minimum qualification and above is eligible to make the application for appointment for the post of a teacher. The prescription of minimum qualification does not preclude the candidates possessing higher qualification from the zone of consideration. The SSB grants weightage for the qualifications both minimum as well as higher/additional possessed by the candidate and shortlists the candidates on the basis of comparative merit in accordance with the weightage so accorded. He said all the candidates who make the grade on the basis of comparative merit are short-listed for interview. The short-listed candidates can include those not possessing B.Ed/M.Ed qualification if they possess high merit in the minimum eligibility qualification and get more weightage points than those possessing higher/additional qualifications. Therefore, the question of consideration of non-B.Ed/non-P.Gs for recruitment separately does not arise.
