LC, ULBs, BDCs polls to be held soon: Prof Soz

NAGROTA (JAMMU), Sept 2: The elections to four seats of Legislative Council (LC), the Block Development Councils (BDCs) from Panchayats and the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) would be held as early as possible.
This was stated by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz while addressing a public rally at Agore in Nagrota Constituency here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Soz informed the people that the Congress-National Conference (NC) Coordination Committee had taken notice of the urgency of holding Panchayat Elections at the Block level, elections to the four seats of Legislative Council from Panchayats and holding of elections to the Local Bodies and assured them that these elections would be held soon.
Soz further said that he has taken notice of the demands of the people such as the problems of refugees and displaced persons of various categories, problems of Ex-Servicemen, farmers and people living on border areas and near LOC and these problems would be solved on the principle of justice and equity.
The Congress party has taken up these demands at the level of Prime Minister, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, recently and urged for early solution to these issues, he added.
Addressing the gathering, All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Incharge J&K Affairs Abdul Mannan Ansari lashed out at the BJP for their continued disruption of the parliamentary proceedings which is against the basic essence of democracy.
He said that BJP is shying away from discussing issues in the parliament which shows their weakness and lack of faith in the democratic system.
He referred to the 73rd & 74th Amendments of the Constitution and said that Rajiv Gandhi has empowered these PRIs in the country and people of state should enjoy the same powers in this state also.
Earlier, Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma raised various issues of the refugees of West Pakistan and displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and demanded time bound solution of their problems.
He also raised the issues of Ex-Servicemen especially the imposing of VAT on CSD items and demanded its review. He also sought full empowerment of Panchayats in the state.
Responding to particular demands of Nagrota Constituency Prof. Soz assured the people that setting up of a Degree College and Construction of Dhannu and Suua roads would be ensured by Congress party at the earliest.
Prominent among others who attended the rally include Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma, Senior Vice President PCC and former Deputy Chief Minister Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Vice President PCC Hari Singh, General Secretary and MLC Ravinder Sharma, President Mahila Congress and MLA Indu Pawar-MLA besides ex-Ministers Mula Ram and Manjit Singh.
