| Cong holds protest against Geelani's remarks | | |

UDHAMPUR, Sept 2: Expressing its strong resentment over the alleged communal remarks made by Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the Congress held a protest demonstration-cum-rally here today.
Led by former District President Youth Congress and senior Congress leader Sumeet Magotra, a large number of party activists raised slogans against Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
The protest rally which started from District Development Commissioner (DDC) office moved towards Slathia Chowk where an effigy of Geelani was set on fire by the protesters.
Addressing the rally, Sumeet Magotra condemned the statement made by Geelani in strong words and alleged that the statement made by the separatist leader is communal and highly inflammatory and has got the potential of damaging the communal harmony of the state. He urged the people of the state to maintain peace, calm, brotherhood and communal harmony and further said that at this juncture we require to see through the sinister plans of the agents of Pakistan who on the backing of their Godfathers in Pakistan.
Magotra made an appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to immediately initiate penal action against Geelani under the relevant provisions of law prevailing in the state.
