Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 3: Known for his extreme moves, former Minister and AICC member, Abdul Gani Vakil playing atypical tune today urged AICC chief Sonia Gandhi to constitute a high profiled Congress leaders' committee so as to monitor political and economic developments in the State and to review implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes in the State.
Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today urged the AICC president Sonia Gandhi to constitute a team of Senior AICC leaders entrusted to watch the political and economic developments in Jammu and Kashmir where people are alienating from the Government lacking 'good governance'.
Addressing party workers convention held at Tulsi Bagh in Srinagar today, Senior Congress leader Vakil said the political situation in J&K is quiet fluid where good governance transparency and accountability is completely missing from the scene.
"The situation is, he said, "so grim that Congress needs to see the wrath of the people in coming future which Congress cannot afford."
Vakil asserted that party workers besides common masses are getting alienated because various development schemes meant for upliftment of society were not generating the desired results. He said there were many decisions which the alliance party took in isolation without taking Congress party on board such unilateral decisions are undermining the authority and credentials of Congress leaders and workers.
In a veiled attack against National Conference, Vakil regretted despite liberal financial assistance pouring in from Centre and various other Centrally Sponsored Schemes people are continuing to feel suppressed and deprived of even the minimum basic facilities.
He said many remote areas of the State still are without water, electricity, health facilities, road networks and education but no concrete plans or proposals are visible on the ground or stand proposed in the pipeline. He said thus there is a need of monitoring Centrally Sponsored Schemes and seeking utilization certificates of the funds released by Central Government from time to time and demanded a high level committee in this context.
While describing corruption the biggest challenge before the State Vakil said many stringent laws were made by the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad during his tenure to check corrupt practices but non implementation of such laws has encouraged corruption and favoritism in our State. Vakil added that institutions like SAC, SVO, SIC are also being undermined and discouraged to give free run to the corrupt bureaucrats and politicians due to which the image of Congress along with NC is getting a dent.
In the end, he urged the AICC chief Sonia Gandhi to asses for herself the everyday surfacing financial as well as administrative scams pouring daily in the media due to which our party has suffered a great setback in J&K State.
Among others who addressed the gathering include ex Minister and MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma, general secretary J&K PCC Dr. Abdul Ahad Yatoo, vice president INTUC Farooq Ahmad Wangnoo, Sr. Congress leaders Aga Syed Muhsin, Ghulam Ahmad Lone, Ghulam Hassan Shah district president Ganderbal, Abaas Jawhar and Sevadal district chief Srinagar Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan.
