Notice served to CS, Forest authorities for removal of encroachment | Azad's father's house built on Forest land | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 3: In an astonishing revelation by the office of Deputy Commissioner Jammu in response to an RTI application moved by a Social Activist of Jammu Prof SK Bhalla to ascertain the status of land under occupation of Kh. Rehmat Ullah Bhat s/o Khizar Joo Bhat (father of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad), the Public Information Officer certified that perusal of the copy of the Khasra Girdawari for the year 2002-2004 enclosed with the RTI application reveals that the land measuring 10 Kanals 2 Marlas comprised in Khasra No 2269/12 Min situated at Village Sunjwan (Bathindi) Tehsil and District Jammu reveals that the land in question belongs to Forest Deptt which is exempted from the operation of J&K State Lands (Vesting of ownership to the occupants) Act 2001. The RTI reply further disclosed that in terms of Section 3 (e) of the of J&K State Lands (Vesting of ownership to the occupants) Act 2001, the forest land is outside the purview of the Roshni Scheme. The RTI reply categorically mentioned that Kh. Rehmatullah Bhat has been recorded in the revenue record as illegal occupant (Kabza Najaiz) of the aforementioned land measuring 10 Kanals and 2 Marlas. After receipt of the aforesaid information through RTI which is of wide public importance, Prof SK Bhalla today served a notice through Adv Sheikh Najeeb Ashraf upon Chief Secretary J&K, Commissioner/Secretary Forest Deptt, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Chief Conservator of Forest Jammu and Divisional Forest Officer Jammu seeking eviction of the encroachers from the aforementioned forest land. In the notice it has been submitted that the reply of RTI has confirmed that Kh. Rehmat Ullah Bhat s/o Khizar Joo Bhat (father of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad) has illegally/unauthorizedly grabbed the forest land on which he raised a huge palatial bungalow and the authorities of the Forest Deptt acted as mute spectators and allowed the conversion of forest land to non-forest activity in gross violation of J&K Forest Act and J&K Forest Conservation Act. Not only this, the Forest Deptt turned a blind eye to the massive construction raised on forest land and the authoritative pronouncements of the Supreme Court like TN Godavarman Vs Union of India were thrown to winds just to confer undue benefit to high profile father of Union Health Minister. |
