Sham welcomes joint ventures in AYUSH

SRINAGAR, Sept 4: A 4-member Committee of Kerala Legislative Assembly on Private Members Bills and Resolutions (PMBR), headed by its chairman T.N. Prathapan called on the Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma, here today.
The Committee is on 3-day visit of Jammu and Kashmir to study the health scenario and steps taken by the State Government to provide healthcare to the people and implementation of various flagship programmes of Central government. The Members shared the working of health system in Kerala with the Minister and suggested that both the States can explore possibilities to promote AYUSH system which has been becoming popular day by day. They opined that both the State are having lot of potential of health tourism and people can avail benefits if efforts are made jointly.
The Committee maintained that the Kerala Legislative Assembly has passed a unanimous resolution on the unprecedented price rise of medicine and steps for their control. The Committee further maintained that the Kerala Government wants that similar resolutions are passed in other States so that prices of medicines were maintained at uniform rate. They said that the price control of medicines in the country should be handled by the Ministry of Health & Medical Education which is presently being looked after by the Chemical and Petroleum Ministry in the centre.
They requested Sharma to use his influence for passing a resolution in the J&K on the same lines to pave way for keeping a check on the price rise of medicines.
The Health Minister appreciated the endeavour of the Kerala Assembly for passing such a resolution and hoped that the efforts will definitely help in achieving the common goal. He said everyone is concerned about the price rise of medicines and collective efforts are required for their control. He assured that the Jammu and Kashmir Government will also take suitable measures in this regard. The Minister welcomed the suggestion for exploring possibilities for joint venture to promote AYUSH system in both the State. He said that Jammu and Kashmir has already taken several steps to promote this sector and created a full-fledged Medicinal Board with a whooping funding of Rs. 16 crore. He said keeping in view the popularity of the traditional healthcare and increasing number of patients in the AYUSH sector, the Government has sanctioned one Unani College and one Ayurvedic College in the State.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the Members for visiting the State and providing important feedback for improving the healthcare sector.
The other Members who accompanied the team included, P.A. Madhavan, Abdul Razak and Anwar Sadath.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul, Mission Director, NRHM, Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman and other officers of the State Government were present on the occasion.
