Geelani fails in stoking communal fire | | | early times report Jammu, Sept 4: Poor response by Geelani on his call for hartal against construction of Amarnath yatra, has shown him his standing. Aloof, perturbed, parochial and paranoid hard-line separatist was looking for a moment to bask in the glory of once again reaffirmed as undisputed and tallest leader of Kashmir. Living in isolation and wilderness for quite long time, Geelani and his ilk though that SC ruling, which can't be challenged, would give them an opportunity to stokes fire of regional and religious passions. In his understanding that it would make him put back the situation which had existed in 2008 and 2010 . But he got it wrong this time. The revival of tourism has made people believe that conciliation rather that confrontation is the only way out. People have stakes in economic development and they have realized its fruit for the last two years, especially this year when streets of Srinagar were chock-o-blocked with tourists. Geelani may keep in saying against yatra but people in Pahalgam and Baltal have economic interests. It's this over riding economic reason that Geelnai failed to see and this where he has failed. Geelani may be getting some support from fringe elements and also from people who are afraid of him but its translating on streets and Geelani fears that he will try to coax the people he will be virtually lynched. People have realized that any support to Geelani can be counter productive. It can have counter reaction across the country and if that happens that will be economical suicidal for the people of the Kashmir. This is the thing Geelani may want for his political survival but it will be suicidal for Kashmiri people and that's the reason the hartal didn't evoke response Geelani had hoped.
