Crisis deepens, migrants of other TRTs join Jagti agitation | | | ET Report JAMMU, Sept 5: The Jagti crisis have flared up with migrants of all TRTs Buta Nagar, Nagrota, Muthi and Purkhoo resorting to hunger strike in support of enhancement of relief demand in their respective camps. The token hunger strike has been started from today at TRT Nagrota, Muthi, Buta Nagar and Purkhoo with the camp inmates in general and relief holders in particular extending full support to displaced youth sitting on fast unto death at Jagti township for last four days demanding enhancement in cash relief. Meanwhile, Sunil Kumar Pandita whose condition deteriorated at Jagti township late night yesterday and who was shifted to GMC Jammu for treatment has refused to take oral food despite the fact doctors advised him that fasting for longer time will prove fatal to him. The three youth at Jagti led by Ajay Bhat who are also sitting on fast unto death had warned self immolation showed reluctance to break the fast despite the repeated appeals by the authorities and are adamant to break the fast only after their one point agenda i.e enhancement in cash relief. They made it clear that the present agitation is only for enhancement in cash relief as for over last five years the Government failed to take any decision in this regard. They said with skyrocketing prices it has become very difficult for a relief holder to keep his body and soul tighter and he was forced to resort to agitation as Government has been unfavourable towards their demand. ``The Government has deceived us by making false promises on this account and we will not budge an inch this time and are committed to take the present struggle to its logical conclusion,'' said Ajay Bhat. The dharna started by relief holders in front of Relief Commissioner's Office also continued today and the protestors warned the Government not to test the patience of relief holders. Meanwhile, the CPI (M) senior leader Sham Kesar, PDP Migrant Cell leaders Ashok Sidha and Rakesh Pardesi also joined the dharna at Jagti today and assured full solidarity with displaced people. They urged the Government to settle the problems of the migrants without further delay and take immediate decision on enhancement in cash relief as well as ensure proper power and water supply in Jagti township and other TRTs. Deputy Speaker Sartaj Madni and PDP senior leader and former Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri have also expressed serious concern over the Government's apathy towards the inmates of Jagti township and migrant relief holders. In their separate statements the duo urged the Government to fulfill its commitment regarding enhancement in cash relief and also provide basic amenities to the displaced people. They strongly condemned the lathicharge on peaceful demonstrators at Jagti the day before yesterday and termed it a highhandedness on the part of the coalition Government. They said to cover its failures the Government was resorting to undemocratic methods to suppress the voice of people fighting for their rights in the State. Kashmiri Hindu Conference (KHC) president ML Thusso and convener PL Koul Budgami have also extended their full support to agitating people of Jagti and condemned the police action on them. |
