| 2 narco smugglers held with 26-kg poppy straw, 2 held with liquor | | | Early Times Report
Ramban/Jammu, Sept 6: Two smugglers were arrested alongwith the contraband of poppy straw in mountainous Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile two bootleggers were also arrested with cache of illicit liquor by police. Police said based on tip off regarding smuggling of a poppy straw, a nakka was laid this morning near Shan Palace on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban and a truck No. 1877-JK02T on way from Srinagar towards Jammu was intercepted,’’ police here said.
The contraband was hidden in a designed fabricated fuel tank of the vehicle, they said adding, ‘’during frisking 26-kg poppy straw was recovered and the smugglers who have been identified as Mohinder Singh S/O Ram Saran cast Jat (Driver) and Mohinder Kumar S/O Charan Dass (Cleaner) both R/O Raipur Satwari Jammu. A case under FIR number 134/2012 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered and investigations are in progress.
Meanwhile in another similar case, Ramban Police held a bootlegger involved in illegal liquor smuggling and recovered 60 pouches of J&K Excise at Nagbal Banihal.
The arrested has been identified as Zakir Hussain S/o Muzaffar Ahmed R/o Gopalpura Anantnag, who was carrying 60 illegal liquor pouches. A Case FIR No 151/2012 U/S 48 (A) Excise Act stands registered at Police Station Banihal.Yet in another case, Police Party of PS Rajbagh acting on a specific information conducted raid at Bakral Colony near Khanpur Tehsil Hiranagar apprehended one person identified as Sandesh Kumar S/o Om Parkash R/o Sunjwan Rajbagh and recovered 40 Pouches of (Desi) Illicit Liquor from his possession. A case FIR No. 152/12, U/S 48 has has been registered at PS Rajbagh. |
