Meeting between Governor Vohra and separatist Lone | Kashmir Scene | | Neha JAMMU, Sept 6: People's Conference chairman Sajjad Gani Lone, who is also the author of Achievable Nationhood, is an ambitious person. He is a separatist but of a different category. He dislikes India but, at the same time, doesn't mind taking part in the country's political processes or electoral politics. He had taken part in the last general elections, but forfeited his security deposit. He could not lead even in the Assembly segment of his father, who once opposed Article 370 saying it was the root cause of all the evils facing the State, represented a couple of occasions. And there are reasons to believe that he and his outfit might take part in the Assembly elections as and when held. Elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly could be held anytime. It all depends on the developments as they are unfolding in New Delhi at a very rapid pace with the main opposition BJP demanding the Prime Minister's resignation and the Congress not being able to neutralize the BJP's no-holds-barred propaganda blitz against it. If the Congress-led ragtag coalition Government in New Delhi goes, the fate of the NC-Congress coalition Government in the State would be no different. It will also go. It is also a ragtag coalition with the NC openly and publicly taking on the Congress party. It's anarchy in New Delhi and it's anarchy in the State that has created a situation which could help the opponents of the Congress at the national level and the NC at Kashmir-level turn tables and capture their political space. Lone, like the PDP leadership, has perhaps realized this. The meeting between him and Governor NN Vohra on Wednesday at Raj Bhawan needs to be viewed in this context. That Lone went all the way to Chasma Shahi to meet with the Governor did suggest that something is cooking up. It is not known what exactly transpired between the two, but it can be said that it was not merely economics that was discussed by the two. They must have discussed many things, including the Kashmir's political scene. Report that emanated from Raj Bhawan simply suggested that Lone met with Vohra and the former discussed with the latter "matters pertaining to the rapid economic development of the State". No one would believe this report. Lone must have discussed with Vohra the Kashmir's political scene. It was not an ordinary meeting between a mainstream politician and the State's Constitutional head; it was a meeting between the ambitious Lone and Vohra who is known more a track-II operative that a Governor. The truth is that the meeting between the two was meaningful. |
