High command for 'relooking afresh' into matter | 'Home coming ' likely of expelled BJP MLAs | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 6: With BJP high command contemplating review of the decision taken over a year back ,'home coming ' is likely to be seen of the seven expelled MLAs of the party in J&K. The high command has given the task of taking a fresh look into the decision of expulsion and suspension of a few members taken last year after their involvement was found in the cross voting episode that rocked the State political circles during polls to four seats of Legislative Council in April 2010. Sources said that the issue is once again in active consideration of the Central leadership and they have decided to take the expelled members back into the party fold soon. However, some of the senior leaders in New Delhi are of the view that instead of revoking expulsion of all the seven simultaneously, the MLAs may be taken back into the party fold after scrutinizing their conduct and behavior towards the party, particularly during the period when they were facing disciplinary action from the party high command for having flouted whip and voted in favour of non BJP candidate. Sources also said that most of the leaders are of the opinion that only those members be re inducted into the party as party's MLA whose contribution to the party has been rich and gainful politically and whose association with the party would matter in terms of the benefits to party during polls in next Assembly elections. According to sources, the second thought of reinstating the expelled MLAs has dawned upon the quarters who matter in taking vital decisions after having an 'assessment' of the State of affairs in the party's State unit as also the position of BJP in J&K in the ever changing political permutations and combinations in national and regional mainstream parties. However, the party leadership is also believed to have taken cognizance of the 'regretful and repentant' response of some members over what they have indulged in defying the party whip and post cross voting developments in maligning the image of the BJP. Some of the members have been strongly lobbying for some time in New Delhi on the basis of their personal contacts and influence in the quarters that matter and vying to get back into the party fold without delay. The party high command has assigned the job of taking a relook into the decision taken last year and take gradual steps in a manner that would justify the changed stand of the party in the matter. The seven members who faced a tough disciplinary action in the matter include Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Bharat Bhushan, Baldev Raj, Jagdish Sapolia, Lal Chand and Durga Dass. They underwent a series of questioning sessions from the leaders in the Disciplinary Committee who were given the job of establishing their involvement in the cross voting and were finally expelled in November last year. While Prof Gupta was expelled earlier, sometime in May for gross indiscipline, other six members faced this verdict in November. |
