Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 6: The fast unto death of displaced youth at Jagti demanding enhancement of cash relief entered 5th consecutive day with one more youth hospitalized late last night after his condition deteriorateD.
The dharna in other TRTs and at Relief organization also continued today in support of protesting relief holders of Jagti demanding enhancement of cash relief. The protestors at Jagti warned not to break fast till their one point agenda is met. They held the Government responsible for forcing them to take the extreme step and reiterated to commit self immolation in case the demand was not met immediately.
Hundreds of camp inmates also joined the dharna today raising slogans in support of their demand and Government's apathy towards them. They while holding Government responsible for their displacement and present plight and alleged that under a conspiracy some elements in the Government were trying to eliminate the entire community otherwise there is no justification in not enhancing the cash assistance.
They also appealed all KP organizations political and non political to join the ongoing struggle physically and take it to logical conclusion.
The cash assistance has not been enhanced for over last five years and prices of essential commodities are touching peak with the result the people dependent on cash assistance from Government are unable to make their both ends meet, said Nana Ji a camp youth.
Criticising the rigid attitude of the Government he said it had enough money to enhance the perks of legislators by many fold but its coffers are empty when the turn of increasing cash relief for hapless displaced people comes, he added.
He said the corruption is on the peak and money coming from Centre for development of the State goes to few pockets in Kashmir and despite knowing this the Central Government is pumping more and more funds to end the alienation but when the turn of displaced Pandits come the Union Government too adopts a rigid stand.
Ramesh Kumar another youth from Jagti said that Government was responsible for forcing people of Jagti and other camps to come on streets as it failed to implement the employment package announced by Prime Minister in April 2008. Out of 6000 posts only 1500 appointments were made in four years, he added.
He said this shows how unconcerned the State Government was towards the displaced Pandits from Valley. Though over two lakh youth were given jobs by successive State Governments since 1996 the Pandits were totally ignored.
He said the number of Pandits in civil services and other Government jobs has completely decreased over the last 23 years and out of 14,000 employees in 1989 when mass exodus took place there are hardly two thousand Pandit employees working in various Government departments.
