After healthcare now Central, District jails go devoid of 'Police Guard'

JAMMU, Sept 6: While there were reports about the poor healthcare, Jammu's two jails namely Central Jail, Kotbhalwal and District Jail Ambphalla get devoid of due police guards as the same deployed at both the jails was withdrawn in one go late night today, sources said.
Highly placed sources said the police guards deployed to take the ailing prisoners to the hospitals for their medicare was withdrawn reasons known better to the authorities.
They added, the healthcare at the two jails already was facing crunch of human resources including experts as of eight doctors sanctioned in both the jail, only one at each jail, is managing the affairs at the over crowded prisoners.
It needs to mention here that District Jail Jammu with a capacity of 450 is presently housing 519 prisoners while as much as 600 prisoners languishing in the Central Jail that too much higher count against its maximum intake capacity.
Central Jail Superintendent Rajni Sehgal when contacted confirmed the reports of withdrawing of 'police guards' from jail. Addl Director General (ADG) Prisons, Naveen Aggarwal briefly said that the matter was taken up with the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad.
Meanwhile, sources added that earlier Medical and Health Department has left the jail inmates to suffer health and now police by withdrawing police guards has started playing with the lives of the prisoners.
They said that a contingent of four police guards had been sanctioned in Central Jail and similar in number in district jail Ambphalla since 2004 to take the ailing prisoners to the hospitals but with the passage of time their number decreased to two.
"And the same happened when talk of medical services, they added, a group of four doctors were sanctioned to both these jails for medical check up of the jail inmates and to take the prisoners to hospital in ambulance during emergency, but here again only one doctor namely Dr Rajinder Thappa posted at Central Jail and one B Grade dental surgeon namely Dr Sandeep are handling the health affairs against sanctioned four vacancies. While police is tight lipped over the matter of healthcare, Director Health Dr Madhu Khullar when contacted in a brief reply assured of deputing of more doctors in both the jails. She said as soon as the formal docket (demand) is received we will depute medicos in respective jails.
