Lack of political will to empower Panchayats: JKPP

JAMMU, Sept 7: Expressing its regret over the lack of political will to empower Panchayats in J&K, the Jammu & Kashmir Panchayat Parishad (JKPP) said today that imaginary fear among the rulers of loosing power can cause irreparable loss to the welfare of general public thereby raising a serious threat to the process of peace, progress and prosperity in the State. JKPP vowed to continue its struggle to get 73rd and 74th constitution amendments implemented in toto and for the needed empowerment of PRls in J&K. Parishad also sought to get all the 29 Departments as per 11th schedule of Constitution Section 243 transferred to the Pahchayati Raj Institution. To work for the sanction/release of monthly honorarium @Rs 8000/- & Rs 10,000/- for Panchs and Sarpanchs respectively from the date of their election.
