| Girls excel at Classmate Young Author Contest 2006 | | Presentation Convent's Ishita Sharma wins Chandigarh regional city finals | | Jammu, Feb 8
Ishita Sharma from Class IX, Presentation Convent Sr. Sec. School, Jammu has won the Jammu regional city finals of 'Classmate Young Author Contest 2006' (CYAC 2006). Ishila is among the 38 children short-listed for the prestigious Classmate Young Author award from across the country.
These 38 students are a part of a national talent hunt that saw participation from over 200,000 children from over 6000 schools spread over 34 cities. This nationwide talent hunt for budding young writers is now the largest event of its kind in India.
The national jury panel for CYAC 2006 is chaired by Ruskin Bond includes, Derck Bose, Saif Hyder Hasan, Pooja Lulla and Rupa Gulab. The national jury will select 16 of these students for the national finals to be held on February 12 in Mumbai.
Ishta Sharma, the winner of Chandigarh City Finals from Jammu said, " It is indeed a lifetime dream come true for me. I have been writing for last some time and always wanted to share my thoughts with others. CYAC has provided an excellent opportunity to display my talent to the world. I am confident of making it to final 16 and excited to meet Mr. Raskin Bond. ITC has created an innovative platform for budding writers like I am. I hope to bring the glory to Jammu this time"
Ishita's story has been selected amongst 26500 entries from 114 schools across Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Jammu at CYAC 2006.
The winner of Classmate Young Author Contest 2006 will be awarded a seven-day trip to Paris, widely regarded as the 'art capital' of the world, with his/her guardian wherein he/she will be given an educative tour of the city. The stories of all 16 finalists will be edited by Ruskin Bond himself and will be published by Rupa & Co.
