Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 7: Jammu, the city of valiant Dogras who are known for their compassion and empathy have strangely been indifferent to the landmarks that are reminiscent of its glorious past. From historical monuments to the memorials of its heroes, all have faced apathy of the administration, Government and more worryingly that of the common people of the city. From Darbargarh to the memorial of KL Sehgal, several such landmarks have been examples of popular neglect.
On one hand the Archaeological Survey of India is making all efforts to restore the pristine glory of highest citadel of city of temples-Bahu Fort and on the other hand the replica of the same majestic fort is in shambles and has been encroached upon by the number of shelterless people.
Built on the railway road, infront of the Provident Fund Office close to Pragati Bhawan, where office of the Jammu Development Authority is located the replica of Bahu Fort is facing neglect for past several years. Till date no one in the State machinery has bothered to free the place of encroachers and utilise the same for some tourist related activity.
Not a single responsible functionary or the political elite representing the people of Jammu have ever spared a thought to find an answer to the key question why replica of Bahu Fort was built and why it has been left unattended to ruin after spending public exchequer money.
Finding it in state of neglect a group of shelter less people use the shelter for their night halt and even cook their daily meals under the roof of the dilapidated structure.
The boundary wall of the Bahu Fort replica tell the story of neglect as it has developed cracks but no one has ever carried out any repair work.
Thick vegetation inside the building and unhygienic condition of the building incite more wanderers to the place. When empty some of the passers by even use the place to relieve themselves.
Ironically, the office of the Jammu Development Authority, Divisional Commissioner and all other important Govt offices are located at a close distance but the Bahu Fort replica is loosing its sheen brick by brick with each passing day.
