Consumer Commission directs refund of money to duped Hajj aspirants | “Govt should come up with a legislation to regulate Tour and Travel agencies” | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 8 : Disposing off the case filed by the duped Hajj aspirants, The Jammu and Kashmir State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed the owners of the infamous Hajeej Hajj and Umrah Services company to refund the money it swindled from the aspiring pilgrims within a period of six weeks. “The respondents shall refund to each of the complainants (150) in all cases, the entire amount received from each of them (Total Rs 2 crores, thirteen lac and seventy eight thousand) less by whatever might have been paid to any of their directrly of through intervention of any court, forum or agency”, reads the order issued by the commission and signed by the President of the commission, B.A Kirmani, a copy of which lies with KNS. Going on step further, the commission has also directed the respondents to pay an amount of rupees twenty five thousand per complainant towards litigation, loss of profit and compensation for agony that they went through. “Plus Rs 20000 to each one of them (total 30 lakh) on account of compensation for agony and inconveneience and loss of profit on deposited amount suffered by them together with litigation charges of Rs 5000 per complaint (total Rs 50000) within a period of six weeks from now”, further reads the order. The commission, through this order, has also asked the government to come up with a legislation for registration, control, supervision and monitoring of the dealings of Tour and Travel agencies in the state. |
