Protest against RTI rules amendment staged | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 9 : A protest was today held here against the amendment of rules relating to Right to Information, carried out recently by the state government. The protesters, among them various civil society organisations and supporters of RTI, claimed that the step was taken to weaken the State Information Commission (SIC) and other institutions of transparency. "This is yet another attempt of the state government in curtailing the people's rights. The new RTI rules has eroded all the powers of the statutory i.e State Information Commission whereas the members of the Commission are mutually appointed by the government and Leader of Opposition. Protesters raising slogans against the corrupt bureaucrats and holding placards marked “ Don’t Kill RTI” and “ Don’t DON’T PUSH J & K BACK TO MONARCHY” insisted for strengthening the SIC, SAC and SVO. They also urged the Chief Minister to beware of bureaucrats who are misguiding the Ministers and the C.M on RTI Rules and asked him to root out such elements from the bureaucracy.
