| Maj Akash’s statue unveiled | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 9: Jammu Kashmir Democratic Front (JKDF) organized a function to install the statue of Major Akash Singh (Shaurya Chakra) at Rajpura Park (Rajpura Mangotrian) on the occasion of his 3rd death anniversary here today. MLA Jammu West Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, who was the chief guest on the occasion, unveiled the statue of Major Akash Singh in presence of his family members and thousands of people from various walks of life, who gathered here to pay tributes to this brave hero. Speaking on the occasion, Prof.Gupta threw light on the life of Major Akash Singh and described him as great son of soil who sacrificed his life in service of nation while fighting the infiltrators in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district in the wee hours on September 9, 2009. “He made us feel proud and held the heads of Dogras high who have history of bravery and sacrifices besides setting an example for younger generation that nothing is important than the motherland,” Prof Gupta said. Justice (Retd.) Paviter Singh, BS Slathia (President Jammu Bar Association), SArun Gupta (Secretary General Chamber of Commerce & Industry), Capt.(Retd.) Diwan Singh, Colonel Tiwari, SDPO Bakshi Nagar were the other prominent citizens who spoke on the occasion. Later, a shawl and memento was presented to Deepti, wife of Major Akash Singh by Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta along with Anil Gupta and whole team of JKDF. |
