‘Shanivaar Do Baje’, a new play staged by Natrang in Sunday Theatre Series | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 9 : Surender Verma’s famous play ‘Shanivaar Do Baje’ featured here at Natrang Studio Theatre, Kachi Chawni today in Natrang’s Sunday Theatre Series. The play has been directed by Anil Tickoo. The play carried many suppressed human emotions and presented them in a subtle way which was far less crude as the vulnerable circumstances in the play could have been, so it was well received by the audience. In the play, ‘Shanivaar Do Baje’, a middle-aged, married man with three kids is having an affair with a not-so-young spinster, and the two have been having a clandestine rendezvous every Saturday afternoon for the past two years, at borrowed venues, mostly the houses of the friends of the man. Both are employed, and their relationship goes much beyond the physical, they discuss all their problems and emotions with each other. It appears as if they have become comfortable with this unusual relationship of theirs without any feeling of guilt or cheating as they feel that it is only them in the entire world who understand each other and have enough empathy and affection to carry this relation for as long as they could. In a critical society where illicit relationships are looked down upon, these two are neither bogged down by guilt nor share the society’s moralistic platform. The play is not a preaching or lesson, it just peeps into someone’s life and shows the picture as it is and leaves on the audience to take it the way they want to. Balwinder Singh and Rajni Bhatti both played their roles with professional ease. Rohit Verma executed the lights and Rahul Singh operated the music. Sumeet Sharma coordinated the show and Sajra Qadir did the presentations. |
