Unmoved in pushing through case of Migrant Relief Holders….! | Govt prompt only in increasing perks of Ministers , MLAs … | | early time report Jammu, Sept 9: The ongoing agitation of Kashmiri Migrant Relief Holders and Jagti township inmates in support of their demands is only turning out to be a hoarse cry in a deep jungle where no one hears anyone and law of jungle prevails . The demand of enhancement of cash relief which is overdue for long and an outcry over non availability of basic facilities, the issues of survival and no matter genuine by all means remain unheard and unheeded from the quarters that matter. On indefinite hunger strike, the condition of many protestors deteriorated in the past few days . One wonders what is government actually waiting for in terms of any ugly turn which agitation may take if no one intervenes from the State Government. The Relief Holders , if government pays some attention, are not demanding skies nor anything out of this world . It is an enhancement which is over due for years and which even Centre has acknowledged and committed to be fulfilled soon. Even simple arithmetic suggests that increase in cash relief is overdue after nearly two decades to these migrants who were getting amount of Rs 3000 initially rose to gradual Rs 5000 and Rs 10000 in a gradual manner in installments . Even this a paltry amount in present times when the price rise has broken the back of most of the families dependent on this dole and has caused huge financial crunch in such families on all fronts. Their lives have become miserable and in some cases , it is learnt the situation has reached to brink of starvation . This is all widely known which is why the agitation is getting intense and gaining momentum with more and more political parties expressing solidarity with the protestors. The moot point remains what makes the NC -Congress coalition Government adopt indifferent and apathetic attitude towards this humanitarian problem which concerns survival of thousands of families and is affecting education of children and health care of the ailing members. The situation is atypical and in sharp contrast to how we see this very Government responding quickly and making decisions swiftly when it comes to hiking the already fat perks and emoluments of its Ministers and Members of the Legislature. It came smoothly and promptly twice during the tenure of present dispensation, without even asking for it in a loud manner. No protests , no dharnas, not to speak of any hunger strike or extra effort to get this through. All that Government submitted so swiftly was some MLAs requesting the Government to increase the perks in view of 'price rise'. Now the question remains that it is not the State Government which has to empty its exchequer in conceding the demands of the Relief Holders as the funds come directly from Centre under SRE for this purpose. All that the Government and Chief Minister, still unmoved on the issue, has to do is to push through the matter as strongly recommended matter to Centre in view of pathetic condition of the families. But why would it do so…..and what would it gain in doing so ……remains the million dollar question….?
