As both DCD and DDE in JU, Deshbandhu does justice to none | Students' demand for one man one post gains momentum | | Abodh Sharma Jammu, Sept 9: Tirade by the student bodies against Jammu University seeking one man one post in its administrative set up seems to be justified as Prof. Deshbandh Gupta, who heads Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) and the Directorate of Colleges Development (DCD), two of the most important positions in the university administration has become a pain in the neck for the Vice Chancellor. The queer ways of the Director, Prof. Deshbandh Gupta have left the VC's secretariat resolving issues that the University would have better done without. Close on the heels of a vehement protest by the printers association of Jammu against the Directorate for allocating entire printing work outside the State, the DCD has failed in carrying out the inspection of the private B Ed colleges for the grant of annual affiliation. These colleges have to undergo a process of inspection by a team of university officers each year before making admissions to various courses, but the inspection has to be carried out before the admissions start, but this year, while the admission to the B Ed course have begun, the directorate has yet not completed the inspections, leaving the colleges which seek affiliation annually in a state of confusion. "The DCD has been creating unnecessary hurdles in the smooth conduct of B Ed course. By making the applications online, we may lose a huge chunk of aspirants from States like Rajasthan, Haryana and other states where rural candidates do not have access to internet. in the process, we are losing admissions", he added criticising the arbitrary manner of working of the DCD. "The colleges are now being granted temporary affiliation so that they can go ahead with the admissions", an officer of the university divulged. Meanwhile, there have been reports of dissatisfaction amongst students in the functioning of DDE as well. "By giving him the charge of both DDE and DCD, the Vice Chancellor has made Prof. Deshbandhu as de facto VC of the university", a student leader pointed out. |
