MLA asks PDD officials to charge power tariff after verifying load | | | Early Times Report Doda, Sept 10 : Abdul Majid Wani MLA Doda, while addressing a large gathering of agitating people from Ghat, Gundna, Marmat and Bharath areas of Doda constituency, directed the PDD staff to charge power tariff only after verifying actual load in each household. A strong gathering of approximately two thousand people from far flung areas of Doda constituency staged a symbolic protest against the PDD officials for raising minimum monthly tariff from Rs. 108/- to Rs. 317/-. They, all, dispersed peacefully after MLA Doda assured them to take up this matter with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah personally and till that the PDD officials shall charge power tariff only after verifying actual electricity being consumed by each household. Majid Wani assured the whole gathering that the controversial government order for charging flat tariff based upon minimum load of 500 watts shall be soon got withdrawn and he will impress upon the government to complete the process for 100% installation of electronic meters in Doda constituency so that there is no extra burden on power consumers and the consumer pays only for the electricity consumed by him. Meanwhile, PDD officials were also asked to improve power supply in all rural areas and they should be quick to respond to frequent power break downs or power snags happening now and then, especially in far flung areas. The Electricity Control Rooms should be made functional round the clock up to Panchayat level in whole of Doda constituency. Local Sarpanchs have greater responsibility in ensuring safety of all electrical gadgets, supply lines, poles, transfers etc. installed under their Panchayat jurisdictions. Today, the state is facing a serious challenge of ever increasing deficit in power sector which is mainly due to huge losses in Transmission and Distribution of electricity. MLA Doda welcomed initiative taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in unbundling of Power Development Department which will show remarkable results very shortly. |
