Says Hurriyat important player in resolution process | Omar differs with Papa | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 10: Chief Minister's Papa said last week that New Delhi would not beg the separatist conglomerate to hold talks with New Delhi. But Omar Abdullah said this evening that doors for dialogue were always open for Hurriyat Conference. He also said Hurriyat Conference was an important player in the resolution process. While Dr Farooq evoked severe criticism, Omar was hailed for his ‘polished’ statement. According to political experts, Dr Farooq very often oversteps his limits and issues statements which the Union Home Minister and External Affairs Minister of India should be issuing. Omar said New Delhi had urged the Hurriyat leaders to submit their demands in writing. "However, as far as I know, they have not responded till date", he said. While the Hurriyat Conference played to the galleries during the past one year, the reality is that the separatist amalgam was eagerly awaiting Prime Minister's invite for talks. A senior Hurriyat leader, Moulana Abbas Ansari met the New Delhi's nominated interlocutors on Jammu Kashmir at his residence last year for which he was suspended from the Hurriyat membership for some time. Immediately after his meeting with Padgaonkar, he said that Kashmiri separatist leaders would be invited by the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, for talks soon. "I was recently told by interlocutors that they would arrange my meeting with the Prime Minister of India. But I categorically told them that the invitation should go to the Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq," he told a local news agency. Ansari claimed that senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister of India, LK Advani, 'will also attend the meeting where Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh will talk to separatists.' "I stand for the meaningful dialogue and I believe that it is the only way forward," he said and added that neither New Delhi nor Islamabad can thrust any decision which won't be acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Ansari desperately waited for Prime Minister's invite since his meeting with Padgaonkar. However, the Prime Minister seems to have some important issues (other than Kashmir) on mind. No invitation seems forthcoming at least for the time being. |
