Much delayed cabinet expansion, Doda Cong MLAs planning revolt | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU,Sept 10: Irked over continuous neglect by New Delhi, Congress MLAs of district Doda have threatened to revolt against the party high command if they are not given adequate representation in the State Cabinet. The threat has come in the wake of New Delhi's silence over the impending expansion of the State Cabinet. Erstwhile district Doda is represented by five MLAs of Congress and one from National Conference (NC). These Include Majid Wani (Doda), Mohammed Sharief Niaz (Bhaderwah), Ghulam Mohammed Saroori (Inderwal), Viqar Rasool (Banihal), Ashok Kumar (Ramban), all from Congress and Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo (Kishtwar) from National Conference (NC). Of these, Niaz, Wani and Saroori have remained Ministers while Viqar and Ashok Kumar are both MLAs for the first time. These two MLAs represent Banihal constituency, which has remained unrepresented for last more than 40 years. Sources said that restlessness has increased among the aspirants with few of them resorting to repeated submission of memorandums to Congress High Command for induction in State Cabinet. Baffling silence of Congress High Command coupled with politically motivated disinterest of both Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has compounded troubles of these five Congress MLAs. They were until few days ago criticizing the Congress High Command behind the closed doors but now they have begun talking in the open and even threatening the people in Delhi with consequences. They reason annoyance of local populace with Congress due to non-implementation of various developmental schemes, owing to the fact that sitting Ministers in coalition both from Congress as well as National Conference, prefer their home constituencies to save their own vote bank. These political leaders of erstwhile District Doda are finding it difficult to make their people understand reasons for much delayed expansion. Sources said that a revolt is brewing in the ranks of Congress and by December 2012, political scenario of State is likely to witness a major turnaround. If Congress leadership at the Centre does not heed to demand of local workers, sources said that New Delhi may be forced to constitute another team of interlocutors for its own party unit in J&K. "Dozens of Congress workers come to my office daily. They complain of officers not redressing their grievances. Similar is the behavior of Ministers," said one of these MLAs. He further alleged that Doda MLAs are being neglected as nobody in the administration is listening to them. He further disclosed that party high command is being misled over the functioning of Government especially with regard to Doda constituency. Another Congress leader said that workers and leaders from erstwhile district Doda have worked day in and day out to strengthen roots of Congress in erstwhile district Doda but the attitude of neglect will definitely result in huge loss in coming days. He urged upon the high command to take corrective measures and provide representation to Doda legislators to save Congress in their erstwhile district. It may be recalled that there are two vacancies in the Cabinet from Congress quota, one was caused by the resignation of PWD Minister Ghulam Mohammed Saroori and other is vacant since day one. It needs no mention that a wave of resentment and anger is brewing among people for unfair treatment meted to them by non-inclusion of Congress party MLAs from Doda region in the state cabinet. This is likely to have some fallout. |
