Governance deficit, lack of cohesion in coalition to resound in Assembly | | | ET Report JAMMU, Sept 10: In the forthcoming Assembly session even as the opposition has many burning issues to take on the NC led coalition Government, the principle opposition party PDP is all set to attack the allies on deficit of governance, an issue which has hit the masses and made their lives miserable on all fronts. The opposition parties would also rake the issue of complete lack of coordination and cohesion in the Omar Abdullah led Government on account of which governance is suffering. While all the opposition parties would rake up the issues of corruption and misgovernance as main issues during the brief session, sources within the PDP said that the party leadership will particularly gear up on the issue of this Government working in different directions , something which has become loud and visible lately with major alliance partners only distancing from each other. While there is lack of unity and harmony among the coalition partners NC and Congress, their Ministers are only pulling on and passing the days in typical 'job saving' mindset, unconcerned to deliver in a better and collective way. "They are working not for the masses but to safeguard their chair and get a handsome package at the end of the day…….this kind of attitude has ruined the concept of governance and concern for masses is nowhere to be seen", said a senior PDP leader. Anger and resentment is brewing against the present Government and they want opposition party to take them on a big way, he added. PDP's sharp weapon on this would be increasing gap and differences between NC and Congress on a host of issues, not only on the basis of the statements they make publicly but also on day to day working within the Secretariat where there is no cohesion between the Ministries. Even the Ministers of same party, be it NC or Congress are not working in tandem and there have been occasions where it reflected that they are all working on cross purposes. Another high point of opposition during the session while raking up the issue of lack of governance and harmony in the coalition would be to attack Chief Minister for retaining three vital and public oriented portfolios with himself. The Chief Minister apart from taking care of many significant portfolios has retained the R&B department, Education Department and Power department with himself. Even though two of these departments were originally with Congress and had to be taken care of by the CM for various reasons, observers feel these were hard hit in governance as all the three are directly associated with common people and the later had no access to Chief Minister. PDP would also rake up to the hilt what it has often been making allegation of 'absconding' administration in order to register resentment over no administration on ground and no accountability from any quarter. |
