Attempt to destablise commission: SAC

Jammu and Kashmir Accountability Commission today said that an attempt has been launched against it to detabalise it.
A statement issued by J&K Accountability Commission (JKAC), here today stated "Instead of encouraging the people to approach the Commission for redressal of their grievnces for eradication of corruption which has engulfed the society, an attempt is being made to destabilize the Commission by putting forth the wrong facts before the masses"." The commission has not been approached for providing of data of cases instituted/settled and without the required information a disinformation campaign has been initiated by certain vested interests to meet their nefarious designs", the statenent said. It said,"the disinformation campaign has been initiated with a purpose to discourage the aggrieved persons to approach the commission by filling complaints against the public fuctionaries how so ever high or low he may be".
According to the Secretary of the Commission "JKAC came into existance in pursuance of the JKAC Act 2002. the Commission became functional only in August 2005 when the then Chairperson was administered oath of office by the Governor of J&K State"." When The commission started procceding against the menace of corrouption ,it gained momentum and good reputation,some vested interests started creating hurdles in its smmoth functioning". he added.
He said," the matter was raised in the Legislative Assembly by various MLA's sxpressing concern over the bold functiong of the Commission.".
Statement said that"two new members were appointed after the resignation of former Chairperson, the Commission continued its tirade against corruption, mal-administration against the public functionaries."
Giving details ,the work done by Commission from May 2006, 248 number of complaints were instituted till December 2006 and out of these 26 cases have been disposed of as settled as the grivances projected were. on the intervention of the Commission redressed 108 cases/complaints were disposed of on merits. 232 cases were dismissed in default of appearnce of the parties. At present 249 cases are pending before the Commission.
Statement said,"that the disposal of cases by theCommission shows that the JKAC has been working vigorously and people have sterted reposing faith and trust in the intitution." "Some cases ofwide public importance are subjudice before the Connission viz Rs three hundred crore JAKFED scam, allotment of Bagliar Hydroelectric project, conversion of City National Forest Srinager ,International Golf Course, alleged bunglings in renovation of Circuit House,Jammu/ Srinager and residences pf VIP's including renovatiov of JK House, New Delhi and illegal/arbitrary nominations allegedly made in AMT School.Jmmu/Srinager." Apart from this the Commission has initiated suo-moto action under Regulation 9 of the the JKAC 2005 against various senior public fuctionaries who allegdly indulged in favourtism and corruotion while discharging their duties. the working and the conduct of six ministers is pending for scrutiny in various complaints before the Commission".
