| Lecture delivered on ‘Dalit Leadership and the Role of Ambedkar’ | | | JAMMU |FEB 9
DR. Ambedkar Studies Centre, Department of sociology, university of Jammu organized a lecture on ‘Dalit Leadership and the Role of Ambedkar’. Dr. Vivek Kumar, Assistant Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi delivered the lecture on this occasion. Dr. Kumar is the author of Dalit Leadership in India and India’s Roaring Revolution: Dalit Assertion and New horizons and several articles and research papers published in reputed journals and books. Dr. Abha Chauhan, Director, Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre, gave the welcome address and outlined the activities of the centre.
Dr. Vivek Kumar in his lucid , engaging and thought provoking lecture brought home the point that Ambedkar has been understood mainly as a Dalit leader and his role as a constitution maker and a National Builder has been scuttled which is equally important and must be recognized. Dr. Kumar brought about the phases of Ambedkars leadership by focusing on his role as social reformer, political, activist, statesman and a renouncer.
The session was chaired by Prof.J.R. Panda H.O.D. of Sociology highlighted the significance of Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre and the Relevance of Ambedkars work for the students, teachers and researchers. Vote of thanks was given by Krishan Chand.
