Murder case registered against Army for civilian killing

Srinagar, Feb 9
The Jammu and Kashmir police today registered a First Information Report (FIR) under section 302 of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) against the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) for allegedly killing a civilian in an encounter in south Kashmir last night.
A police spokesman said following the allegations of killing of a civilian in Arigam Tral during an encounter, Police today registered an FIR against the 42 RR under section 302 RPC in police station Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
People of the area alleged that there was no firing in the area and that Mohammad Afzal Kumar was killed by the security forces without any provocation.
However, a defence spokesman said three soldiers, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were killed and two others wounded in a militant attack in the area last night.
About 2,000 people took to the streets this morning and blocked traffic on the road in protest against the killing of Kumar.
The demonstrators, chanting slogans against the security forces, demanded immediate arrest of RR pesonnel responsible for the killing of Kumar.
