Governor inaugurates state-of-art vet hospital

Governor, Lt. General (Retd) S K Sinha today exhorted agricultural scientists to intensify the process of interaction with farming community for better animal management and optimum agriculture production.
Speaking at a function after inaugurating the state-of-art Veterinary Referral Hospital-cum-Complex, one of the best such facility in the country, at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Chatta this morning, the Governor said the University has a greater responsibility in this regard as agriculture is mainstay of majority of our population.
In agriculture development lays the prosperity of the State and the Nation, the Governor said, adding ‘I see a bright future for agriculture and allied sectors in the region.
General Sinha referred to the locational advantage of the university complex in famous Basmati bowl of Ranbirsinghpura, known around the country, and hoped that advanced research will immensely benefit farmers and help in having a better yield. He also recalled the greatest contribution of Ashoka the Great, founder of Srinagar City, in pioneering veterinary sciences centuries ago and said that many strides have been taken in this regard in the State.
The Governor expressed happiness over the dynamism with which the mega complex has been completed and said that he has a personal satisfaction of witnessing the seed sown a few years ago blooming like a flower. He expressed optimism about emergence of the university into one of the best varsities of the country engaged in imparting training in agricultural sciences. ‘Pursuit of excellence should be the motive of all’, he said, adding that the university is moving fast towards path of progress. ‘Such centres of knowledge will go a long way in sustaining the green revolution’, he maintained.
General Sinha congratulated Vice Chancellor Professor Nagendra Sharma for accomplishment of various projects within the university complex.
The Vice Chancellor, in his welcome address, said that the referral hospital will be made a model institute for treatment of livestock and training centre for veterinarians of the State for proper coverage of animals. He said that the services would remain available to the farmers round the clock thought-out the year even on holidays.
About the upcoming library complex, Professor Sharma said that it will not only be a storehouse of books and journals but efforts would be made to integrate the library with other knowledge based activities in the local area to develop a community based information system. This will function as knowledge resource centre and national repository of farming records and connectivity with national knowledge grid through latest Internet connectivity. In order to promote the knowledge of agriculture and livestock sector and enhancement of farm income and productivity on sustainability basis, the state-o-art facilities developed at this campus would be helpful to enrich farmers’ life and livelihood and will provide alternative means of sustenance and generate the employment. ‘Eventually these would improve the socio-economic status of the farming community’, the Vice Chancellor said.
Referring to the infrastructure development in the campus, Professor Sharma said that projects involving a cost of Rs 50 crores are currently apace and would be completed within stipulated time frame.

The double storey Veterinary Referral Hospital-cum-Clinical Complex spread over an area of 10200 meters has been constructed at a cost of Rs 988 lakhs. The complex is equipped with all the advance facilities for clinical examination like X-ray, ultrasound, blood gas analyzer etc, advanced diagnostic laboratory, investigation and operation theatres for small and large animals, artificial insemination facility using frozen semen would also house the veterinary clinical divisions of veterinary sciences and animal husbandry. The facilities of outdoor and indoor would be available for animals.
Earlier, the Governor laid the foundation stone of Library Complex of Veterinary College to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 473 lakhs with total area of 2948 meters in a period of one year. The Governor was also given presentation of the developmental works going on in the campus.
Former Vice Chancellor, Mr H U Khan and an expert from Holland, Professor Hans Backer were among those present on the occasion.
