| Intelligence officer's body found in Nandigram | | | NANDIGRAM (WB) | FEB 10 (PTI) The body of district police intelligence officer Sadhu Chatterjee was found today from the Haldi riverbed at Narghat, near here, four days after he was killed in a mob attack.
There were severe head injuries with the stomach ruptured, the police said.
Chatterjee's body was identified and sent for post mortem.
The District Intelligence Bureau sub-inspector was attacked and killed on February seven at Ishwardehajalpai in East Midnapore district when he accompanied police to an area where roads were being dug up by people to prevent forces from entering their villages.
Divers had been searching the Haldi river for the body.
East Midnapore district has witnessed violent protest by villagers since early January following rumours that the large areas of farmland would be acquired for setting up a SEZ by Indonesia's Salim group. Six persons had killed in violence in early January at Nandigram in the district.
Meanwhile, the Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee claimed that the men in villages had fled their homes in fear of the CPI(M) and police. v |
