SVO presents challan against the then JE Kalakote

The State Vigilance Organization today produced challan before the Special Judge Anti Corruption Jammu against the accused Mohammed Bashir, the then
Junior Engineer Rural Development Department Kalakote Rajouri, who was caught red handed while accepting bribe from the complainant.
Giving details, a Vigilance spokesman said here today that on August 6 last a written complaint was lodged by Mandeep Sharma son of Gian Chand Sharma of village Sair Kalakote alleging therein that on April 7,2006 he was allotted work for construction of lane/drain from Higher Secondary school Sair to the house of Gian Chand at a cost of Rs. 50,000. After execution of work within 20 days and checked by the Junior Engineer Mohammed Bashir, the complainant approached the accused Engineer for payment of his bills who demanded Rs.10,000 as illegal gratification for handing over the bill to the Accountant of the Block Kalakote.
Expressing his inability to pay such a huge amount, a negotiations was reached between the complainant and the accused Engineer and the deal was struck at Rs.6000 which was to be paid to the accused at Sangh Mitra Palace Hotel at Narwal Chowk and the remaining amount to be deducted from the bill at the time of payment. On this the complainant approached the Vigilance Organization with a written complaint against the accused Bashir Ahmed, the then Junior Engineer.
The spokesman said on receipt of the complaint, a case FIR No18/2006 u/s 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 2006, was registered in police station vigilance organization here and accordingly laid a trap.
The spokesman said that the accused engineer was caught red handed while accepting Rs.6000 as bribe from the complainant and the money was recovered in full in presence of independent witnesses. The accused was taken into custody and later released on bail by the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court Jammu. The accused is presently under suspension and has been attached to the office of the Assistant Commissioner, Development, Rajouri.
