| Truck operators threaten state-wide strike | | | JAMMU FEB 10 Local Truck Operators Union has threatened to go on state- wide token strike, if the Government till February 14 does not take a favorable decision on its demand. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the truck owners union held at Railhead complex here today. A Union handout said that the truckers would hold mass demonstrations, dharnas, and road blockades and go in for indefinite strike to force the government to reconsider its decision regarding condemnation of 25- year old vehicles. The meeting said that Supreme Court judgement regarding condemnation of 25 years old vehicles explicitly stated that the vehicles of 25 years vintage would continue to operate till the final decision of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Public Interest Litigation. The Union regretted that Assistant Regional Transport Officer and the Traffic Department were unnecessarily harassing the truck owners to take off the vehicles from the roads thus depriving them of their livelihood. The meeting, the hand out claimed, was also attended by Presidents of other transport unions and those addressed the meeting included Dalip Singh President JKMTCA, Manmohan Singh, President Local Truck Owners Union, Parfulat Singh, General Secretary, Kamaljit Singh Vice president, Mohan Lal, Sham Lal and Lachman Singh.
