| Injured Porcupine rescued in Handwara | | | Handwara, Feb 11 A wild animal, Porcupine, was rescued today by a police party after the animal was being chased by a group of villagers in Handwara area of district Kupwara, here today. Sources said that Porcupine, was noticed by some locals of the Kralgund area. Alarmed with recent attacks by the wild animals, the villagers reportedly started chasing the animal. Eyewitnesses said that some villager threw stones on the animal leading to his injuries. However, when the police came to know about the matter a special team was immediately rushed to the area, which rescued the injured animal. “Police party headed by Line Officer SI G R Khandey reached the spot and rescued the animal from the locals”, a police spokesman said. The animal, he said, was critically injured and was immediately shifted to a nearby Vetinery hospital in Handwara. Meanwhile matter was brought in the notice of wild life officials, who deputed a team to the village. S P Handwara Dr M. Haseeb Mughal told,“We have tried our best to rescue the animal and have even got the animal treated immediately and subsequently handed over to wild life department”. |
