In a meeting of Jammu Municipal Employees Federation (JMEF) held under the Chairmanship of Paras Ram Poonchi, several burning demands and problems of the Municipal employees were discussed, at Town Hall this afternoon. The federation also decided to observe token strike on February 14, 2007 in support of their demands.
The federation put forth several demands which include the regularization of Safai Karamcharis and Mashkies those who have completed seven years as a daily rated service, release of the two and a half days extra salary in favour of Municipal staff as their services fall under the category of essential services, conversion of Safai Karamcharis services from TDL to PDL. Federation also demanded immediate framing of Departmental Promotion Committee for the municipal employees along with provision of the proper accommodation for the trade union activities of the JMEF and SKC union R-421 in the town hall premises.
It was also decided unanimously to hold one day token strike on 14th February in favour of their long pending demands. Among those who also participated in the meeting were Lal Gill, George Burrat, Anil Kashyap, Gulzar Masih, Jarnail Khokhar, Mangat Ram, Gulab Din, Satpal Karlopia, Ajit Gill, Kumar Kant Sharma, Ranjit Singh, Mohd Younis Bhat, Sant Ram, Khazan Chand, Madan Lal Kangotra, Shazadi Gill, Kiran Bibi, Bashiram Bibi etc.
