Return of BSF jawan's widow from Pak jail may be delayed
2/12/2007 10:01:07 PM
MANDI, FEB 12
The wait for minor children of Chandra Devi, who lost the way searching for her husband and strayed into pakistan where she is languishing in a jail, might be prolonged as her return has been struck due to technical problem.
Sources in the BSF, Jalandhar, said that as per latest information the pakistan rangers have handed over the case of Chandra devi to police who in turn have refered the issue to a court.
Now, Chandra Devi's return is possible only after a favourable court order, the sources added.
The BSF official said that during their meeting with the Pakistan rangers on February 14 they would make a forceful plea for expediting the return of the hapless woman on humanitarian ground.
Loosing mental balance after seeing body of her husband Amar Singh, a head constable with the border security force (BSF) who was shot dead allegedly by his own colleagues in January 2004 when he was posted in Tripura, Chandra Devi while loitering in search of her husband had crossed over to Pakistan last year.
Failing to trace her mother, her son Arun (16) had lodged a missing report about her with Dharampur police station in April last year.
On the call of BSF, Jalandhar, Chandra Devi kins identified her through photograph.
The woman's two minor children Arun (16) and Asha (11) were hoping return of their mother before the meeting of the BSF and Pakistan ranger on February 14 but, due to technical problem their wait might be prolonged.
The two children staying with their grandmother in Dharampur village are facing fund crunch as after the disappearance of Chandra Devi there was no scope for drawing pension money registered in her name.
While elder Arun studies in standard XI his sister is a student of standard seven in the same school.
Meanwhile, a women organisation 'Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Janvadi Samiti' staged a march on the streets of Dharampur on Friday last for early release of the Chandra Devi.
