TOP STORY OF THE DAY
No let up in Pak shelling on IB; all 63 BoPs, 130 hamlets targeted, 12 hurt
Pak suffers colossal losses in retaliatory action by BSF
10/10/2014 12:15:38 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 9: Even as there has been no let up in Pak shelling on the 192-km International Border (IB) here, India has toughened its stand and told the neighbouring country that there will be no peace talks with it till it stops firing. The IB by and large remained peaceful during the day today but the enemy troops overnight targeted all the 63 border outposts (BoPs) and 130 hamlets, resulting in injuries to at least 12 persons. BSF IG, Jammu Frontier, Rakesh Sharma said the Pak Rangers overnight fired mortars and bullets, targeting all the 63 Indian BoPs on the 192-km IB from Kathua to Akhnoor. "There was, however, not much loss on our side except for injuries to 2 to 3 BSF personnel and 5 to 6 civilians," he added. In reply to a question, the IG said they were targ...

Jammu leaders need to think beyond party politics
Regional Council for Jammu
10/10/2014 12:15:00 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Oct 9: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma Wednesday again reiterated that he stood for the Dogra identity, regional council for Jammu province and end of the Kashmiri domination. "For how long Jammu will continue to play second fiddle to Kashmir and only think of the post of Deputy Chief Minister? Why not a Chief Minister from here? I had to face opposition within the party for my 'bold' postures on regional council and Hindu Chief Minister. Jammu leaders would have to admit whatever he had said on these issues. We have to think beyond the party politics and struggle unitedly for better future of Jammu and this is not possible by limiting our vision ...

Intelligence agencies baffled over Pak accuracy to hit targets
On earlier occasions, Pak shells exploded in noman's land, this time these hit targets; agencies' search for a "mole", if any, begins
10/9/2014 11:22:32 PM
Bharat Bhushan RS PURA (JAMMU), Oct 9: Go to any forward region here, you will find everyone discussing the accuracy with which Pakistan has this time hit its targets. This dominates their discussion. Acquaintances will share the "secrets", which otherwise are talk of the town, while others would take you as aliens and try to maintain a distance from you. This is the scene in every border village here. "You know, this has happened for the first time in my lifetime. I have never seen Pak shells hitting targets in villages with such an accuracy. I doubt someone has apprised Pakistan of the exact location of houses and other important buildings in the Indian border villages. If it turns out ...

Pakistan will find attacks 'unaffordable', says India
10/9/2014 11:22:18 PM
Early Times Report NEW DELHI, Oct 9: Pakistan will find its firing and shelling along the Jammu and Kashmir border "unaffordable", Defence Minister Arun Jaitley warned today. Insisting that Pakistan was the aggressor, the Minister told the media: "If Pakistan persists with this adventurism, our forces will make the cost of this adventurism unaffordable." He said Pakistan had made a series of "unprovoked" violations of the 2003 ceasefire on the border in the last few days. "These have mostly been on the International Border and some have been at the Line of Control (LoC) also," he pointed out. "The International Border has never been an issue at all and most of these violations are occu...

10/9/2014 11:22:09 PM
Arun Trisal KATHUA, Oct 9: Weeks after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was seen dropping food packets to the people stranded in floods in Srinagar, while his Government had disappeared from the face of the earth, his casual visit to a camp of border dwellers who had sought shelter there after fleeing their homes due to Pak shelling has not augured well with the people in distress. Omar who was seen operating solo in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley made a cursory visit to a single camp of border migrants at Govt Hr. Secondary School, Hiranagar, while many others in adjoining camps eagerly awaited to narrate their tales of woe to the Chief Minister, but were left heartbroken as Omar ret...

Main opposition party PDP has yet not made its stand clear in the public but all other parties including Congress have given their consent to hold Assembly elections in time. Miserable plight of Jammu, Ladakh
Bogey of alienation
10/9/2014 11:15:57 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Oct 9 : They, unlike Jammu and Ladakhi leadership, (mis)rule the state. They exercise unbridled and absolute powers under Article 370. There is no accountability. They have, according to Transparency International India (TII), converted Jammu & Kashmir into the 'second most corrupt' State in India. They control all the portfolios with political weight and considerable funds. They enjoy excessive representation in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly which decides questions of supreme importance to the happiness and well-being of the people. Their representation in Parliament is also in excess of their numerical strength and despite the fact that their region constitutes...
