TOP STORY OF THE DAY
PM makes no mention of Haji Yusuf death, family disappointed
12/10/2014 12:21:06 AM
Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 9: Prime Minister and star campaigner for BJP, Narendra Modi talked development in his Srinagar rally on Monday. Surprisingly no statement against Pakistan was issued. Instead Modi focused on development and eradicating corruption. Modi's guided words won him many admirers. However, a family seeking justice was disappointed. Haji Yusuf, a National Conference worker died in mysterious circumstances on September 29, 2011 while in the custody of IG Crime Branch. The deceased was handed over to the IG by the Chief Minister himself. Yusuf was called by the Chief Minister to his residence in connection with a `murky money deal.' An enquiry held by the police and a report submitted by Justice Bedi exonerated the Chief Minister. However, addressing an election rally at Uri last week, Omar Abdullah admitted that Yusuf died in the custody of former IG Crime, Raja Aijaz Ali. Raja joined People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after his recent retirement. Following Omar's statement, Yusuf's son Talib Husain sought Modi's intervention for justice. Addressing a press...

12/10/2014 12:20:38 AM
Abodh Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 9: On the hind side of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's claims that he assigned top priority to Education sector, the fact of the matter is that he allowed the entire Education department to be reduced into den of corruption from where not only babus, but even Ministers annihilated norms and rules for vested interests and pecuniary benefits. Registration of FIR against Chief Education Officer (CEO) Jammu Tarsem Lal the previous day was just another link in the chain that started just after Omar led Coalition government took over the reins. While CEO was booked along with others for large scale bungling in appointments of Class IV staff in Educati...

Sopore defies Geelani, opts for ballot
12/10/2014 12:12:27 AM
ET Report Jammu, Dec 9: Geelani has been rejected by the people in his home constituency Sopore, hitherto considered bastion of separatism and fort of Sayed Ali Shah Geelani. The voting percentage here has broken the past records. It is also about the realisation in the Kashmir of having being exploited by the separatists. Off all the constituencies going to the polls, Sopore was most watched out. Anti-India rabble-rouser Geelani has been consistently trying to prevent the people of this constituency from going to the polls. He has been black mailing them on the emotive issues like Azadi, anti-India rhetoric and anything under the sky to brainwash the voters from going to the polls, I...

Congress candidate and sitting MLA from Billawar Assembly segment Dr Manohar Lal Sharma won the poll battles first as an independent in 2002 and then as Congress nominee in 2008 quite comfortably on both the occasions largely due to the presence of weak opponents in the election arena. Kunal Shrivatsa Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 9: It seems that after attaining power at the centre, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has become so bigheaded that it is not even shying away in dictating instructions to media persons in winter capital of the state. For publicizing its assembly poll related activities, the BJP has established a Media War Room at posh Gandhi Nagar locality of the city but an email sent from its Media centre contained a very peculiar communication which was not at all taken in good taste by the media fraternity particularly reporters of various newspapers. Though the Media War Room was perceived to micro-manage the party's day to day ac...
