Jammu, July 11: As infighting in Jammu and Kashmir Congress has intensified after G A Mir submitted his resignation, the party high command is mulling over the idea of handing over full command to former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to end the factionalism. Highly placed sources said that a group at the national level has suggested the high command make Azad head of Jammu and Kashmir and give him all responsibility for the coming assembly elections in J&K. “High command is ready to appoint any loyalist of Azad has new PCC chief in place of G A Mir but it is all due to infighting among loyalists of Azad that the central leadership has failed to take any decision on the new president of J&K Congress”, sources said. “Some senior leaders have suggested to the high command that instead of giving responsibility to any loyalist of Azad it is better to appoint him (Azad) as PCC chief and put the onus on him to ensure the victory of the party in the coming assembly elections in J&K”, sources said, adding, “Final decision in this regard has to be taken by the high command ...

ET Report Srinagar: Some of the survivors of the cloudburst at the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra at the cave shrine in South Kashmir said that the “miscalculation” in run for cover by fellow devotees proved disastrous. Srinagar, July 11 (UNI) Airforce would complete the rescue operation around Amarnath cave area in two-three days, a senior Indian Air Force officer said on Monday. At least 16 Yatris died and over 30 are still missing due to the flash floods near the Amarnath Cave on July 8 evening. Air Commodore Pankaj Mittal said initial response to Amarnath cloudburst kept death toll low. Jaipur, Jul 11 (PTI) Four more people killed in the July 8 Amarnath flash floods have been identified as residents of Rajasthan's Nagaur district, taking the toll in the natural calamity from the state to seven, officials said on Monday. At least 16 people have died in the flash floods triggered by a cloudburst near the cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas last Friday. Twenty-five people were hospitalised with injuries and nearly 30 are missing. Three of the deceased had already been identified as Sri Ganganagar district residents Mohanlal, Sunita Wadhwa and Sushil Khatri. Srinagar, July 11: Security forces on Monday shot dead two militants at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The fighting took place in Wandakpora area during a cordon and a search operation. "As the security forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hidden terrorists opened fire, triggering a gunfight," an official said. “In the gunfight, two terrorists have been killed.” Police said the operation was in progress. PM Modi unveils national emblem on new Parliament building

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled the national emblem cast on the roof of the new Parliament building. Officials said the emblem is made up of bronze with a total weight of 9,500 kg and is 6.5 metre in height. It has been cast at the top of the central foyer of the new Parliament building, and a supporting structure of steel weighing around 6,500 kg has been constructed to support the emblem, they said.
