Jammu, July 6: On the one hand government promotes golf to attract tourists but on the other hand even after five months the Tourism Department (TD) seems in no hurry to release the wages. Source in department informed Early Times that six years ago, the tourism department, Jammu had engaged nearly 100 employees on need basis , for the maintenance and beautification of the golf course. "They were promised regularisation. But not to speak of regularisation, the hapless souls are not getting their wages on time," he said. He said that the employees are thinking of taking small jobs here and there to make a living. An employee wishing anonymity said that they repeatedly apprised to officials to release five month pending salaries but the department concerned rather than releasing pending salaries giving only assurances. When this correspondent contacted Secretary of Golf Course, Colonel Bali said that owing to inadequate funds, we have been compelled to meet their genuine demands, adding, "We have tried to release few months pending salaries but it is insufficient for them", he said. In reply of query, he said, "Expeditiously, they will be regularized". |
