14 months on, 3200 casual, NBWs of Jammu PDD without wages

Jammu, July 10: Power Development Department's (PDD) 3200 casual Labourers/Need Based Workers (NBW) have performed regular duty in various EM&RE and Sub Transmission Division in various districts of Jammu province but without wages for the last 14 months.
Akhil Sharma, a NBW said that hundreds of casual worker had been engaged by state government in PDD on temporary basis across the division but no wages have been given to them for the pastfourteen months.
Rs. 3000 per month was promised by state government to each casual labourer but has failed to pay it on time. They have sought enhancement of the wages given the hike in prices of essential commodities.
"The need based workers and casual labourers posted in stores and workshops in various district of Jammu province were performing their duties in the field have been deprived of their wages for months together", Rakesh Kumar another workers said, adding that around 562 casual/ need based workers perform their regular duties in EM&RE division-I, II & III, Jammu. EM&RE division Kathua-167, Rajouri- 612, Ponnch-144, Reasi-182, Udhampur-283, Batote -36,Doda-41, Kishtwar- 67.
Similarly, 664 Causal/Need based workers perform their duties in various Sub- Transmission Divisions of Jammu province but government has failed to clear their dues timely.
Criticizing state government they further said that in couples of years around 436 casual, Need Based Workers of PDD of Jammu division have died and hundreds have become totally handicapped due to electric current on duty.
"It is the responsibility of government to give compensation to those people but astoundingly many times the department disowns such people", they said, adding that many times commissions have been constituted by department concerned but till date nothing substantial was achieved on ground.
They urged Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and higher authority of department concern to release their pending wages and in future release the wages as per schedule of other workers.
PDD, Chief Engineer, Jammu, Ashwani Gupta accepted that these workers engaged with department in various district of Jammu province but they were not regular daily wagers, so their wages withdraw as per work done.
