State Govt responsible for Sunjwan terror attack: Brig Saini
Rohingya-Bangladeshi factor
2/11/2018 10:45:22 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 11: The J&K Assembly on Friday witnessed ruckus over the terror attack on Army Camp at Sunjwan, which left two Subedars martyred and half a dozen other wounded. Pakistan Murdabad, Pakistan Zindabad slogans were raised in the Assembly. The Speaker had to expunge his own remarks on the Rohingya-Bangladeshi angle in the Sunjwan episode. It was unprecedented. All took the line which suited them keeping the paramount national interest aside. Nation was the casualty as political interests were preferred.
Outside Assembly and in the Jammu City and its peripheries, things were totally different. People were in a state of shock. They were extremely angry as well. They were critical of the custodians of the Indian state. They were holding them responsible for the deadly terror attack. All were with the Army and all remembering the sacrifices of the martyred soldiers. Their worry, fears and anger were not misplaced. After all, the terror attack took place in Jammu with some of them asserting that such attacks were bound to happen considering the developments which had been taking place around the Sunjwan area and between Kunjwani and Sidhra, including encroachment of state and forest land.
However, it was Brigadier SS Saini, who put things in perspective and held certain state governments responsible for the Sunjwan terror attack. What he said was as relevant as it was shocking.
Holding the "previous governments responsible for the attack, Brig SS Saini reportedly said: "While a military station should not have any constructions within a 100 metre radius from its compound wall, in Sunjuwan, people have constructed their houses right next to our fence". He also added that "Rohingya and Bangladeshi settlements were allowed near the base".
"Floating population of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar have also settled around the station" and they constituted a potential threat," another war veteran was quoted as saying.
Blaming Pakistan is fine, but it would be dangerous to ignore the saboteurs within. Nation is supreme and the army versions only relevant as they are on the spot dealing with the hostile situation. It would be only desirable if the concerned authorities pay head to what the war veterans said about the Sunjwan terror attack and act accordingly.
In the meantime, the Army has ordered a court of inquiry into the suicide attack on the Sunjwan army camp to pinpoint the "exact security lapses".
