Afzal Guru's execution leads to a major terror attack on Army camp
2/11/2018 11:05:52 PM
Militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir have adopted a style which is akin to terrorists operating in Afghanistan. This is the result of series of incidents during the last one fortnight. The militants, in a bid to secure liberation of a non-local militant from the custody of the police militants opened fire killing two policemen inside the hospital premises. In another incident four soldiers, including an officer of the rank of captain, wes killed when Pakistan opened fire on the Indian border outposts in Rajouri sector. And the latest incident is an armed attack by a group of militants on the Army camp and family quarters on the outskirts of Jammu, Sunjwan, in which two soldiers were killed and six others were injured. Hence the militants emulate terrorists in Afghanistan who have been carrying out armed attacks on hospitals, Army camps and convoys and hotels Two JCOs were killed and six others were injured when a group of terrorists stormed into the Army camp at Sunjwan, on the outskirts of Jammu city, on Jammu-Pathankot national highway The terrorists involved in the attack were engaged in gun-battle and were neutralised Their number was said to be two belonging to JeM. Initial reports suggested that a group of three to four terrorists had reportedly managed to sneak into the highly fortified Army camp. The camp has many residential quarters for the families of the armymen. The terrorists breached the rear side of the Sunjwan Army camp near Sainik Colony on the outskirts of the city during the intervening night.
Initial reports suggest that terrorists entered the camp at 5 am. The Sanjwan army camp has quarters for the families of the armymen. A Kendriya Vidayalyaa is situated metres from the attack side was closed for the day. A high alert was sounded in the entire Jammu region. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to DGP SP Vaid and took stock of the situation. Schools around the Army camp have been closed. Intelligence inputs had warned of an attack on the Army or security establishment by Jaish-e-Mohammed in view of the death anniversary of Afzal Guru who was hanged on February 9, 2013. Despite the inputs from the intelligence agencies the security grid in and around all the Army camps and units had not been upgraded. Had the security grid been upgraded militants would have not dared to sneak into the Army camp at Sunjwan. Even if reports establish that JeM militants were responsible for the attack it means that Pakistani agencies were directly responsible for such a terrible attack. It has taken the Army over 10 hours to eliminate the terrorists despite the fact that Army commandos were summoned from Udhampur who had been trained in isolating militants. One NC MLA indulged in an act which even the leaders of the party were ashamed of. He is said to shouted pro-Pakistan slogans to counter BJP slogans and this way he wanted to strengthen his vote bank.
The BJP had nothing else to do instead of shouting anti-Pakistan slogans. In fact political activists should have formed a team of volunteers to look after the safety of villagers living on this side of the IB and the LOC. Despite the fact that Pakistan trained militants and the Army have been killing civilians and security personnel besides the policemen Kashmir centric political leaders again support resumption of the process of dialogue between Pakistan and India. They do so to ensure peace. But Pakistan is a terrific neighbour of India for its involvement in giving one thousand cuts to India so that it bleeds profusely. And political analysts believe that even if Kashmir is handed over to Pakistan Islamabad may not promote peace and establish cordial ties with India because Islamabad is annoyed and feels bitter with the development process and progress in the defence sector. That has been registered by India during the last 25 years. On the support and help from China Pakistan plays a dubious role and despite warnings from the US and the UN Islamabad is not ready to mend its ways because of the secret understanding between Pakistan and China.
