PHE Deptt's fails to replace damaged pipes aggravating problem Mansar facing shortage of potable water 2/14/2018 10:45:14 PM Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 14: The failure to Public Health Engineering Department to replace damaged pipes of Water Supply Scheme Chaini Mansar has aggravated the problems of inhabitants of Mansar areas who are fraught with pressing shortage of portable water. Sources told Early Times that the 15000 Gallon Per Hour (GPH) capacity Water Supply Scheme Chaini Mansar was made functional long ago and with the passage of time the pipes connected with the water source got damaged resulting in fall in water supply, but these pipes have not been replaced by the PHE department till date leaving majority the area without proper water supply. They further informed that despite a proposal for sanctioning of staff for newly commissioned Water Supply Schemes together with the repairing of pipes, nothing has been done by the government. Locals of the area, while highlighting their problems confronting the people of Mansar apprised that time and again they were promised by the authorities to provide potable water but inhabitants were in severe distress and no proper arrangements have been made for providing adequate drinking water to the locals. Besides, shortage of water supply, the locals also alleged that Mansar Lake popularly known for its beauty and pristine glory had been ignored by the authorities. "Due to lack Sewerage Treatment Plant and dumping site for garbage, heaps of garbage had been accumulated around the lake resulting in decline in the tourist flow. The water had polluted to the extent that there was every apprehension of break out epidemic" said a local and suggested raising a boundary wall around the lake to protect its environ. He alleged that despite number of assurances given by the concerned officers to redress the issues, nothing has been done on ground.
