Fissures in Geelani family on his policies
6/17/2018 10:58:08 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 17: Even as Syed Ali Shah Geelani is hyped as a "tall leader of Kashmir", his own family is allegedly unwilling to accept it.
Family sources said deep fissures have erupted in the family of Geelani over his policies and that one group of his grandchildren are openly questioning the "principles of the tall leader."
Sources said the family of one of his grandson's, who was given a "job by the Jammu and Kashmir government" has conveyed to Geelani that they won't go by his dictations.
Sources said Geelani had asked them not defy his principles and "such actions dent his image in public circles." Sources said the family members have stopped visiting Geelani while the aged leader has told his immediate family including sons to "maintain distance with the rebels."
Sources said for the past few months the "cold war" between the two families is intensifying with each passing moment.
Sources said the "rebel family" has decided to go by the "will of their heart" and that they would be concerned about their interests than that of Geelani.
Sources said the differences picked up when Geelani got complaints from his party colleagues about the behaviors of his close relatives. Sources said Geelani was being ridiculed that his own family members had brought disrepute to the Hurriyat principles from time to time by getting government jobs and other incentives.
What is adding curiosity to the issue is that the so called Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) is aware of the cold war but wants to be away from the issue.
"It's an open issue that he (Geelani) exploited Kashmir issue to benefit his family from time-to-time and now he wants to say that he is not with the members who defy him, but no one is willing to accept it," said a leader close to the JRL, on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said some of the leaders in the JRL are enjoying infighting within the Geelani family.
A senior Hurriyat leader said had relatives of other separatist leaders behaved the way Geelani's relatives did, he would have given press conferences against them. "If we would behave so he would issue press statements but not that it's his own family who wants to question Geelani so its being seen as a different matter," said a Hurriyat leader.
Despite repeated attempts, Geelani couldn't be contacted for comments.
