SRINAGAR, Aug 17: With the Jammu & Kashmir assembly in suspended animation over the past couple of months the people as a whole believe same has been done to find ways and means of 'horse trading' so that a government can be formed in the state.
Political observers believe that as the elections for the assembly in the state are due in more than two years the people at helm in New Delhi want to keep options open for government formation in the state. They said that it is due to this reason that assembly has not been dissolved as yet in Jammu & Kashmir.
"The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) that is in power at the centre wants to make full use of the opportunity that was thrown to them after the 2014 assembly election. The party is desperate to show to the people especially to those living in Jammu that they did something while in power in the state," the political observers told Early Times.
The BJP is on a sticky wicket in Jammu since the party failed to fulfill most of the promises made with the people living in the winter capital of the state and the other areas of the region. Their problems have been compounded ever since pro-Dogra leaders like Chaudhary Lal Singh, Vikramdatiya Singh and Sham Lal Sharma have become pro-active with their demands.
Recently the party faced a major embarrassment when two of its legislators raised a banner of revolt over the party's stated position on Article 35-A. Legislators Gagan Bhagat and Rajesh Gupta said that Article 35-A of Constitution of India should not be abrogated from Jammu & Kashmir.
Both the legislators lauded people of Kashmir for raising voice against abrogation of Article 35-A. Bhagat went a step ahead and said that people of Jammu would suffer more than Kashmir if Article-35 A is abrogated. Although, the party promised action against the legislators no such action has been initiated so far.
The political observers said that the assembly would be dissolved only when the BJP gives up and believes that it cannot form the government in the state. Ever since the Peoples Democratic Party and BJP government in the state has fallen rumours are doing rounds that BJP would form the next government with 'like-minded' people.
However, as on date majority of the PDP legislators are not willing to go with BJP once again vis-à-vis formation of government. Given this fact one fails to understand where from the BJP would rope in the 'like-minded' people so as to form the government in Jammu & Kashmir. Possibility of a break-up in National Conference and Congress is not thought of at this juncture.
It would be in place to mention here that three and half year old PDP-BJP government in the state came to an end on June 19 when BJP withdrew its support to the Mehbooba Mufti led government. Following this Governor's Rule was imposed in the state on June 20. Since then Governor Narendra Nath Vohra appointed three advisors and the state got a new chief secretary in B V R Subhramanyam.
