Kashmir silent as militants now kill mother of 2
8/18/2018 11:15:02 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 18: Upholding its "doublespeak" on human rights violations in the region, the people of Kashmir in general and separatists in particular continued to remain silent as militants in the latest killed another civilian, this time a mother of two.
Police said 40-year-old mother of two small kids was shot dead by two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen on August 17 in Drabgama village of south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
The deceased who was identified as Shameema wife of Ali Mohammad of Koil village was shot dead by militants right at her paternal residence. Hit by numerous bullets, she died on the spot.
But none of the separatists be it Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq or Muhammd Yasin Malik uttered a word to condemn the killing that has devastated a family.
Residents of Koil said Shameema had left her house in Koil in the morning to visit her parental house, where the gunmen fired at her at around 12.45 PM. Body of the deceased was later taken to Koil village for burial amid sobs.
As if this tragedy was not enough, the same day, militants lobbed a grenade at a public place in Awantipora in the same district, killing a civilian while three others received serious injuries. Two of them are battling for life at SMHS Hospital.
But for the separatists, who otherwise claim to be "champions of human rights" and leave no stone unturned to defame security forces remain silent on the atrocities committed by the militants.
Forget issuance of any formal statement to condemn the killing of mother of two, separatists like Mirwaiz Umar Farooq didn't even make a tweet to condemn the act.
Likewise, the so called civil society groups and the "human rights" forums remained tightlipped as always because it's the militants who have committed the crime.
"Basically people of Kashmir especially they (separatists) are scared of the militants and Pakistan and thus don't want to speak the truth lest they too meet the same fate," said an analyst.
A police official on the condition of anonymity said had the people of Kashmir ever mustered courage to speak truth against the militants, the situation would have been far better. "But the main problem is the hypocrisy of the separatists who have no other interests but to fetch benefits from uneasy situation in Kashmir," the police official said.
