Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 19: As the results of the recently held Municipal polls in Jammu and Kashmir are slated to be announced on Saturday the stakeholders are trying to work out the permutations and combinations which could emerge after the results are out.
After the announcement of the BJP state president Ravinder Raina that Jammu and Srinagar cities would get the Mayors from his party, separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Gani Lone has also chipped in. He has claimed that Srinagar would have a Mayor from his party, Peoples Conference, which only won two seats in the 2014 assembly polls.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Soon after the PDP-BJP government fell in Jammu and Kashmir people close to Lone and PDP rebels projected him as the new Chief Minister of the state. These rebels had created an impression that BJP is ready to support them as Sajad Lone is their ally."
He said that Sajad Lone's statement that Srinagar would have Mayor from his party is an indication that something has gone wrong somewhere. The former spokesman of the National Conference Junaid Azim Mattu, who contested the ULB polls as an independent candidate, is believed to have joined hands with Lone. "If he wins the ULB polls he would join the Peoples Conference formally," the analyst added.
He said that if Mattu is elected as Mayor of Srinagar then the BJP state president Ravinder Raina would have to eat a humble pie as he has already boasted that BJP candidate would "rule" Srinagar.
A politician said, "The BJP leaders should stop bragging about Kashmir and need to concentrate on Jammu. The results of these ULB polls in Jammu region could turn the tables on BJP as the candidates fielded by them are on a weak wicket."
He said that the real test for BJP is in the Jammu region and not the Kashmir Valley. "BJP leaders have to prove their mettle in the winter capital," the politician added.
Another analyst said that if Sajad Lone succeeds to get his own man to sit on Mayor's chair in Srinagar it would once prove that BJP leaders have started dancing to the tunes of Kashmir centric leaders yet again. "The BJP state president Ravinder Raina will have to keep his word to prove that BJP leaders are not dancing to the tunes of Kashmir centric leaders and if BJP wins enough seats he should ensure that a BJP candidate becomes the Mayor of Srinagar," the analyst added.
